KNOW YOUR TRIP

Ausangate Trek the true image of the high Andes, the Incas worshipped mountains. Apu Asugante is located in the Cordillera Vilcanota (6,342m). In our trek we cross spectacular passes, explore a radiant landscape below ice peaks and enormous glaciers. Ausangate is a stronghold of traditional Quechua culture/world immersion, the native who live at 14000ft tending their herds of Llamas and Alpacas surrounded by colourful glacial lakes, deep red cliffs and relaxing hot spring with Andean atmosphere. You will also have a good chance of encountering condors, the largest flying bird in the world, and other Andean fauna such as vizcachas, Andean fox and vicuña, practically extinct elsewhere. Although you will be hiking at altitudes of 3,800 meters, once you are acclimatized, the trek is considered a moderate one. Ausangate is considered one of the highest mountains in the south of Peru.

GROUP SERVICE: (02 to 08 People Max): Our most popular Ausangate treks are recommended for everybody who likes the adventure, Families, Honeymooners and Couples.

Our first camp is in Tinki at 3,800 meters, as we fall asleep the setting sun lights up the glacier face of Ausangate.

  • After enjoying our breakfast, we will continue our trek on the top of the Andean mountains crossing and hiking up to the Ausangate glacier. We set up our camp alongside the Upis thermal springs, about 4 kilometres higher and then you will have the opportunity to take a bath in these natural hot springs and the cold Upismayo, which runs beside our camp.(B) = breakfast / (L) = lunch / (D) = dinner
  • We break camp and hike up to a pass at 4,500, which separates Ausangate proper to the east from a spur named Quellacocha to the west. In the afternoon we passed Laguna Pucacocha at the summit and nestled among various minor peaks. The setting sun plays in cascades of coloured ice where we finally make camp.(B) = breakfast / (L) = lunch / (D) = dinner
  • On this day we will try to wake up early and continue walking among high-altitude lakes in the valley south of Ausangate, which are unnaturally blue-green. We rise to cross the Palomani pass at 4,800 m.a.s.l. This is the highest point on the journey. We don’t pass between the massif and the spur, but rather rise to take advantage of a gentler slope high on the mountains side. Here we can see east over the large hand-shaped Lagune Sivinacocha to the jagged, snowcapped Vilcanota Mountains, which cradle this valley. We descended to our camp at Chilcapinaya.(B) = breakfast / (L) = lunch / (D) = dinner
  • Early in the morning we descend into the sunny Jampa valley, which is inhabited by shepherds and their flocks of alpaca and sheep. We lunch in the valley bottom, pass Lagune Ticllacocha, and then climb over a pass at 4,650 m.a.s.l. Our camp is close to Lagune Qomercocha if we make it, or at Pachaspata if dusk catches us there.(B) = breakfast / (L) = lunch / (D) = dinner
  • We will descend for about 4 hours to Pacchanta, on this part you will have time to explore and see a lot llamas and Andean families, arriving for lunch and enjoying another hot springs
  •  Hot springs all afternoon.

(B) = breakfast / (L) = lunch / (D) = dinner

  • We pass through increasingly inhabited valleys among the headwaters of the Paucartambo River on the north side of the mountain until the sun sets. We return to the road and our bus. We get back to Cusco for happy hour and a night at the discos, or a long rest, whichever you fancy.
