IQUITOS ATTRACTIONS 

We recommend the tour in the Amazon Zone for those who have few time and who want to visit the Peruvian jungle and take advantage of the nice landscapes and the various ecosystems. You will also have the opportunity to practice Adventure Sports like Rafting (level I – II) and Canopying. On the other hand, the wildlife in the Amazon Zone is impressive. The main wildlife in the cultural area consists of minor mammals and birds. Hike into the pristine jungle to see the awesome and gigantic Lupuna Trees, the largest in the Amazon, or try early morning Bird watching, Canoeing, Night excursions in search of Caiman, and many other amazing nocturnal creatures. 

The Lodge has become home to a few orphaned jungle creatures such as Woolly monkeys and Saddle backed Tamarins that you may see climbing through the trees or roaming freely on the grounds. They also enjoy the company of humans a great deal! Along the riverbank you’ll find our hammock hut, and benches for relaxing and Bird watching, or glimpsing Morpho Butterflies flashing their blue iridescence as they cross the River, and disappear into the green forest. The intimate dining room is a gathering place for interesting travellers from all over the world.

YELLOW FEVER INOCULATION REQUIREMENTS 

Yellow fever inoculation is recommended for travel to Peruvian Jungle. Get your vaccine at least 10 days before your arrival. You must bring your yellow fever inoculation certificate with you to prove to the airport officials in Iquitos that you are vaccinated.

Before booking the Amazon Tours, please read the following information carefully: 

  • BE sure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months after the date that you enter Peru. 
  • Fill out the booking information. We will contact you as soon as possible (within 24 hours) to confirm your Amazon tours booking, accommodation and assist you in customizing a unique package. 
  • Payment Proceed: We require a US$200 per person deposit for all treks. The remaining balance must be paid before the starting date of the trek. You can pay the balance requesting the agent in charge of your account an invoice to be paid online with credit card or direct deposits.

Itinerary

  • Along the way you will briefly sightsee Iquitos, looking at the most important tourist sites of this representative Peru’s Easternmost City founded in the XIXth Century.Transfer by land to the City of Nauta on the banks of the Maranon River where you will board the boat that will take you to the Tambo Amazonico Lodge. On the way you will be impressed at the sight of the Amazon River formation in the confluence of the Maranon with the Ucayali. Box lunch on route. Arrival in our Tambo Amazonico Lodge located on the Yarapa River (100 miles from Iquitos), one of the first tributaries of the Amazon River, in the so called “buffer zone” or the “gateway” to the Pacaya-Samiria Reserve.As soon as you are installed you will take a hike or canoe ride to explore the beauty of the place. The Tambo Amazonico Lodge is surrounded by exuberant vegetation and beautiful dark water oxbow lakes. Supper at the Lodge. Overnight.

Unique opportunity to spot Fauna species that inhabit the area (monkeys, birds, reptiles); also a diversity of insects and plants.Dug-out canoe ride to the Moringo oxbow lake to see the spectacular Water lilac “Victoria Regia”. It will also be possible to see interesting Flora and Fauna species found on the shores, such as the “Hoatzin” or as it is locally known, “Shansho”, a bird with prehistoric resemblance that feeds on tree leaves that grow around the lakes. Thrilling evening excursion to spot Caiman.Overnight.

  • Eco- Cultural visit to the Jaldar Native Community where you will see their handicrafts using materials found in nature. Visit to the local Shaman who will demonstrate the rituals and use of plants in natural medicine.Canoe ride to the Uvos Oxbow Lake where you will have the opportunity to catch the feared Piranha fish.

Recommendations

  • Trekking day pack with a change of clothes for the whole period of the trek.
  • Rain gear (jacket and pants if available) or rain poncho.
  • Strong footwear, waterproof trekking boots recommended. 
  • Sandals or plastic slip on thongs are also good to give your feet a chance to breath 
  • Warm clothes, including jacket, fleeces, gloves, scarf. Thermal clothing is also recommended, especially for sleeping.
  • Sleeping bag (we can hire these to you)
  • Torch/ Flashlight and spare batteries
  • Camera, films and batteries (batteries consume more quickly under cold conditions)
  • Hat or cap to protect you from the sun, rain and cold
  • Sun block cream
  • After-sun cream or hydrating cream for face and body
  • Insect repellent – minimum recommended 30% DEET – although no malaria risk has been reported
  • Toilet paper, pack in & pack out

  • We advise you to bring water sterilizing tablets in case you collect water from streams.
