IQUITOS ATTRACTIONS 

We recommend the tour in the Amazon Zone for those who have few time and who want to visit the Peruvian jungle and take advantage of the nice landscapes and the various ecosystems. You will also have the opportunity to practice Adventure Sports like, Rafting (level I – II) and Canopying. On the other hand, the Wildlife in the Amazon Zone is impressive. The main wildlife in the cultural area consists of minor mammals and birds. Hike into the pristine jungle to see the awesome and gigantic Lupuna Trees, the largest in the Amazon, or try early morning Bird watching, Canoeing, Night excursions in search of Caiman, and many other amazing nocturnal creatures. 

The Lodge has become home to a few orphaned jungle creatures such as Woolly monkeys and Saddle backed Tamarins that you may see climbing through the trees or roaming freely on the grounds. They also enjoy the company of humans a great deal! Along the riverbank you’ll find our hammock hut, and benches for relaxing and Bird watching, or glimpsing Morpho Butterflies flashing their blue iridescence as they cross the River, and disappear into the green forest. The intimate dining room is a gathering place for interesting travellers from all over the world.

YELLOW FEVER INOCULATION REQUERIMENTS 

Yellow fever inoculation is recommended for travel to Peruvian Jungle. Get your vaccine at least 10 days before your arrival. You must bring your yellow fever inoculation certificate with you to prove to the airport officials in Iquitos that you are vaccinated.

  • BE sure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months after the date that you enter Peru. 
  • Fill out the booking information. We will contact you as soon as possible (within 24 hours) to confirm your Amazon tours booking, accommodation and assist you in customizing a unique package. 
  • Payment Proceed: We require a US$200 per person deposit for all treks. The remaining balance must be paid before the starting date of the trek. You can pay the balance requesting the agent in charge of your account an invoice to be paid online with credit card or direct deposits.

Itinerary

  • Pacaya Samiria Lodge, Tours en Iquitos, Tours en PerúReception at the Iquitos Airport and transfer by paved road to the Community of Nauta where we will board the motor boats that will take us to an outlook tower overlooking the confluence of the Ucayali and Marañon Rivers. Here, in front of our eyes, we will be able to contemplate a unique view of the birth of the Amazon River proper. Afterwards we will continue our voyage to the lodge where we will have an excellent lunch.
  • In the afternoon we will take an introductory guided walk through the forest close to the lodge with opportunities to observe the local flora and fauna. If the time and weather permits, we will enjoy a spectacular jungle sunset. We will also be able to make a night ride in one of our boats to appreciate the forest at sunset. Back to the lodge and supper and overnight.

  • At dawn, we will make a nature walk close to the lodge, before going back to the lodge to enjoy our breakfast. Afterwards we will board our boat to visit the Reserva Nacional Pacaya Samiria National Reserve.Pacaya Samiria Lodge, Tours en Iquitos, Tours en PerúWe will have a chance to look for and maybe appreciate rose coloured and grey coloured river dolphins when navigating along the Yanayacu (Black Water in Quechua Inca language) River.
  • The Reserva Nacional Pacaya Samiria National Reserve is also known as the “La selva de los espejos – The Mirror Forest”; since the slow moving rivers offer spectacularly exact mirror images of the sky, the clouds, the vegetation on the banks of the rivers and the giant trees on the shores, all of which will give the visitor the sensation of navigating among the midst of interminable mirrors.We will have lunch and then we will visit the Lagunas Japón and Platano Lakes with their abundant variety of plants. A canoe trip will allow us to try our luck at fishing for local species. An opportunity to take nature discovery walks looking for animals or just relax, bathing in one of the lakes. We will be back to the lodge in time for supper and overnight.

  • After breakfast we will pay a visit to a native community to observe their daily activities Pacaya Samiria Lodge, Tours en Iquitos, Tours en Perú and we can contribute to the development of this community through the purchase of the handicrafts they offer. These are made out of seeds and so called vegetal ivory, a seed from a palm tree locally called “tagua”. After lunch you will be taken back to the City of Iquitos.

Recommendations

  • Trekking day pack with a change of clothes for the whole period of the trek.
  • Rain gear (jacket and pants if available) or rain poncho.
  • Strong footwear, waterproof trekking boots recommended. 
  • Sandals or plastic slip on thongs are also good to give your feet a chance to breath 
  • Warm clothes, including jacket, fleeces, gloves, scarf. Thermal clothing is also recommended, especially for sleeping.
  • Torch/ Flashlight and spare batteries
  • Camera, films and batteries (batteries consume more quickly under cold conditions)
  • Hat or cap to protect you from the sun, rain and cold
  • Sun block cream
  • After-sun cream or hydrating cream for face and body
  • Insect repellent – minimum recommended 30% DEET – although no malaria risk has been reported
  • Toilet paper, pack in & pack out

  • We advise you to bring water sterilizing tablets in case you collect water from streams.
